Sheriff Bryan Welk has dedicated nearly three decades to serving and protecting the citizens of Cass County. His commitment to public safety began in 1997 when he started his career as a 911 Telecommunicator with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Driven by a passion for helping others and serving his community, Bryan became a Deputy Sheriff in 2003 and steadily advanced through the ranks, earning promotions to Patrol Sergeant in 2010, Patrol Lieutenant in 2020, and Chief Deputy in 2023.
In November 2023, Bryan was honored to be elected as the 14th Sheriff of Cass County. As Sheriff, he remains focused on keeping communities safe, supporting law enforcement professionals, addressing mental health and substance abuse challenges, and building strong partnerships throughout the county.
Bryan believes effective law enforcement begins with trust, accountability, and community engagement. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with local leaders, community organizations, schools, and public safety partners to address the issues that matter most to the people of Cass County.

Bryan is a graduate of Hibbing Community College, where he earned an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of the prestigious National Sheriffs’ Institute at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, the Minnesota BCA Management Series, and numerous leadership and management programs through the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association.
Throughout his law enforcement career, Bryan has served as a Tactical Team Leader and member of the Cass County Emergency Response Unit, a trained Hostage Negotiator, and co-founder of the Cass County Honor Guard.
Most importantly, Bryan is a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and his wife, Jennifer, have been married since 1998 and are proud parents of three children—Haley, Alynza, and Calvin—and grandparents to two grandsons. Together with their loyal German Shepherd, Jake, they enjoy the outdoor lifestyle that makes northern Minnesota such a special place to call home.
Whether serving in uniform, volunteering on community boards, or spending time with family, Bryan remains committed to the values that have guided him throughout his life: integrity, service, leadership, and dedication to the people of Cass County.

It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as your elected Sheriff of Cass County. Today, I am proud to announce my candidacy for reelection.
Since being elected in 2022, I have dedicated myself to keeping our communities safe and strong. Leading the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, my team and I provide 24/7 service through patrol, investigations, emergency response, 911 dispatch, jail operations, civil process, missing person searches, lake and road patrol, and crime prevention efforts.
My commitment has always been, and will continue to be, about protecting families, supporting victims, responding in times of crisis, holding offenders accountable, and ensuring Cass County remains a safe place to live, work, visit, and raise a family.
Cass County deserves steady, experienced, and trusted leadership in the Sheriff’s Office. I have been doing the work, standing with our community, and leading with the judgment and dedication this office requires.
As I run for reelection, I am committed to a positive campaign focused on achievements, service, and results, highlighting the work we have done together to make our county safer, stronger, and more united.
